Essentially, these services help to ensure that your loved ones are cared for while you are away during the daytime. Currently, there are well over 4,000 care centers nation wide - though there were only 300 centers during the 1970s. As you can tell, it has come a long way throughout the past thirty years, which means that you have many more options now than ever before.
Amazingly, merely ten years ago, some adults that are currently elder care centers may have been sent to mental institutions instead. Thankfully, this is no longer the case. The majority of care facilities provide patients with health services, therapy services, social activities, Alzheimer's and dementia specific care, and many other needs that prohibit an elderly person from taking care of themselves. |

If you are trying to find an center for someone that has a mental disease, you should know that there are some disease specific centers out there. In most cases, it is best to send an elderly person to a facility that will work with their individual needs. Most are quality facilities that include many beneficial treatments, though it is advised that you really spend a lot of time looking at each center.
Believe it or not, many caregivers simply need a break once in awhile. Even if you are able to stay at home and tend to an elderly person, you may find that you simply need to step away for a few moments. In this manner, day care can be therapeutic for both the patient and the caregiver. Also, it will ensure that your loved one gets a bit of social interaction - a highly recommended activity.
There are usually plenty of care options in most areas. Spend the time to really walk around each place; ask about activities; and see whether or not other adults are happy at a facility. These centers can truly be money well spent ... and often the reward is a happier family member.
